Interbank clearing

The general organisation of clearing in France

The French payment system follows two streams:

  • The family of small values: cheques, bank cards, credit transfers, direct debits, interbank payment orders (TIP), bills of exchange, ...
Between 30 and 50 million transactions of this type are exchanged each day, representing between 12 and 23 billion euros.

  • The family of large values: cash transfers, settlements for delivery of securities,...
These means of payment are exchanged via the large value systems (PNS and TBF). Between 40,000 and 60,000 transactions of this type are exchanged each day, representing some 450 billion euros, via the large amount systems (PNS and TBF).
