An entity responsible for the identification and authentication of subjects of certificates, but which does not sign or issue certificates. The registration authority can intervene in order to grant or revoke a certificate, or both.
Note: The roles of certification authority and registration authority are complementary. Depending on
the different public key architecture organizations, these roles can be managed separately or shared.
